Terms & Conditions

1. How we value rewards points

You can choose whether or not you value rewards points in your profile preferences. If you don't value them, this section won't affect your search results. If you do value them, here's how we factor them into the results...

When comparing energy plans, we factor in retailer incentives like discounts or rewards. Points-based offers are converted into their gift card or cash equivalent and subtracted from the plan's total cost.

Example: If a plan costs $1,000 per year and includes 20,000 Everyday Rewards points (worth $100 based on a 2,000 points = $10 ratio), we subtract that value. So, the adjusted plan cost shown would be $900.

This helps you compare plans based on overall value, not just price.

Woolworths Everyday Rewards

200 points = $1 in-store credit

Qantas Frequent Flyer Points

220 points = $1 Woolworths gift card

Virgin Velocity Points

228 Points = $1 Target gift card

Virgin Australia Business Flyer Rewards Points

228 points = $1 Target gift card

2. How we value 3rd party products and services

Some energy plans include extras

Some energy plans include extra products or services, like subscriptions, as part of the offer. At bestplans, we help you decide whether those extras should be counted when comparing the true value of a plan.

Your preferences shape the plan value

When you join bestplans, you can tell us which extras matter to you. If you do not value a particular extra, we will ignore it when we calculate the cost of a plan. If you do value it, we will adjust the plan’s cost to reflect the savings or benefit it gives you.

Example: Netflix with ads

Imagine we find an energy plan that costs you $1,000 per year. That plan also includes a Netflix with ads subscription at no extra charge.

  • If you do not watch Netflix and would never pay for it yourself, the subscription has no value to you. In this case, the cost coming out of your wallet is still $1,000.

  • But if you do value Netflix, and you are already paying $100 per year for it, the included subscription means you no longer need to pay for it separately. So even though the plan still costs $1,000, the real cost coming out of your wallet for both your power and Netflix is now $1,000, rather than $1,100.

When bestplans compares that plan for you, we adjust the reported cost to $900, because $100 of the value is covered by the Netflix subscription.

Making comparisons easier

We simplify everything so you only need to look at one number: the real amount leaving your wallet. bestplans handles all the complex calculations behind the scenes, so you see the true value of each plan, not just the advertised price. We do the hard work so you can make the right choice based on what actually matters to you.

Other perks are treated the same way

We use the same logic to manage other energy plan perks like Qantas Frequent Flyer points, Velocity Points, or Woolworths Everyday Rewards Points. All you need to do is tell us what you value, and we report back the holistic best plan for you.

$7.99 per month

My NRMA Rewards Program
